Incredibly, the kids have engaged in some really deep art movements this week. Well, we think it’s deep; they think it’s colors and circles and sploches. But I guess that unless you’re an art historian, we’re all on the same page! Vivi dabbled in impressionism, while Guille experienced the range of post-impressionism, expressionism, and surrealism.

On Wednesday, Guillermo and Melissa headed out to the local street market to (successfully) find some clothes for the kids, and in the process Guillermo got a custom sized belt. It’s incredible what “local leather” means when you’re in Tuscany! He chose his belt and got it custom-sized to him, all for €43 (USD $50).

If you’ve been following along since the beginning, you may be wondering if sleep-deprivation is still a thing. I wish I could tell you “the kids sleep through the night!” but the reality is, every night is different here. Sometimes they’re passed out at 8pm, sometimes they demand cuddles until 9pm, and sometimes they get everything they demand and still wake up at 11pm for more yogurt.

Back at school, the kids continue with their letters & numbers. Lest you get the impression(ism) that everything is peaches and rainbows, the reality is that the kids are so engrossed with school and play that they struggle with transitions. Unfortunately, Guille has started to struggle to get to the bathroom on time, something he hasn’t dealt with for over 2 years! This isn’t about shaming him; we’re just sharing the reality of this major change in his life. We’re very happy he loves school, and the teachers are incredibly supportive, but we were surprised at how it would all manifest. We’re confident he can find the right balance between excitement and a life-long need to listen to his body. Apparently, Vivi has mastered potty-training at school, but is uninterested in showing us her skills at home. Such is.

Guille’s favorite part of the week: Picasso
