Borough Market has undergone considerable construction since Guillermo and I were last here in 2019, although the delicious food vendors are seemingly the same. Our beloved duck confit sandwich, which 15 years ago cost ยฃ3 (USD $4.75), is now an astonishing ยฃ11.50 (USD $15), with wraps and salad bowls costing up to ยฃ13 (USD $17). Just a couple reminders of how much time has passed.
We walked along the Thames and saw more modern buildings Guille recognized โ the Shard, the Gherkin, the Cheese Grater, and the Walkie-Talkie โ as well as the historic Shakespeare’s Globe Theater and St. Paul’s Cathedral across the river.
After watching the boats zoom by on the river, the kids ran around on the grass in front of the Tate Modern before heading back to the hotel for nap time. A surprising 3 hours later, we headed out to dinner at Nando’s, a family-friendly Portuguese-inspired chicken restaurant, where our table was a booth in a nest. Vivi loved the nest, but was less excited about the restaurant noise; Guille loved the whole concept.
Back at the hotel, it was bathtime then bedtime, but the kids had a different idea, and woke up at 1:30am for second-dinner. It took a few more hours, stories, and lots of ineffective shhhhs! before they finally let us exhausted parents fall asleep.
Guille’s favorite part of today: a tie between seeing all the buildings, and Nando’s.
Vivi’s favorite part of today: running around in front of the Tate Modern.
