The kids went on a field trip to the Pistoia Zoo today – and I got to tag along as a chaperone. It was so fun to spend Vivi’s 2nd birthday with her and her friends! But boy, 24 2-5 year olds is a lot of energy with very little impulse control. Their teachers are miracle workers.

The zoo is really unique – it’s part petting-zoo, part ZOO zoo, but not always clear which is which, and they have wild peacocks and chickens roaming around between many enclosures (they seem to understand to stay away from the big cats). Vivi’s class took their time walking around, waking up all of the sleeping animals with their excited squeals, and ended their day at the playground.

Guille’s class started with a couple really cool workshops where they got to feed lemurs and meet penguins up close – not the animals that were part of the petting zoo! Later, they joined the little ones at the playground.

After school, Guillermo took Vivi to the fancy bakery to pick out her cake – chocolate cheesecake for our baby girl. And we celebrated with presents from family and Guillermo’s work trip to London this week – Paddington Bear!
